Transfromers: Generation 1: Prime Directive Review

Those lucky and clever enough to follow Dreamwave's first series of their Transformers line, I applaud you. I paid $36 for the compilation and never regretted it for a moment.
For starters, the artwork is brilliant. The colours were vibrant, and the artists didn't make the Transformers look like Lego toys, all blocky and ugly like the old comics. Also, backgrounds were detailed, and the various covers were breathtaking.
The storyline is the main draw. No longer do we have childish plots and superficial happily-ever-after endings, this is a war, and war hurts. Some of the Transformers meet their end, and many humans as well as they are caught in the deadly crossfire between the 2 factions. Humanity is no longer awed by these magnificant marvels of technology, but are now fearful of their destructive power and want them to leave, fight their own war somewhere else.
Welcome to the real world, it seems to tell us. It tells us, in the most direct and blunt ways that war has plenty of casualties, and throws the noble Autobots' cause into question.
What more can you ask? I believe that this 6 issue mini series is one of the best Transformers stories ever, right up there with Beast Wars season 2 plots.
What next? War and Peace, volume 2, promises to be bigger, better and has Optimus duking it out with Ultra Magnus. From the sypnosis of the story, it promises to be a mega blast.

Starscream, triumphant? Optimus Prime taking out his former comrade-in-arms, Ultra Magnus? All will be revealed in the explosive second volume, War and Peace.

"Till all are one!"
